How to get to Phi Phi
Phi Phi has no airport and no bridge, so every trip ends on a boat. The good news: in high season there are dozens of departures a day from Phuket, Krabi, Ao Nang and Koh Lanta, and the crossing itself is a scenic part of the trip.

Flying in: Phuket or Krabi?
Phuket International Airport (HKT) has the most international flights. From the airport to Rassada Pier is about 35 km, roughly 45 to 60 minutes by taxi or minivan. Allow plenty of time: morning ferries leave around 08:30 to 09:00, so flights landing after about 13:00 may only make the last afternoon boat.
Krabi International Airport (KBV) is smaller but much closer to the piers. Klong Jilad Pier is about 20 to 30 minutes away by car. Krabi has frequent domestic flights from Bangkok and some international connections in high season.
Ferry or speedboat?
The big ferries are slower but stable, cheaper and have a sun deck, toilets and space for luggage. They are the better choice for families, anyone prone to seasickness and the monsoon months. Speedboats are twice as fast but bumpy and cramped; luggage is usually stacked at the front and can get wet.
Arriving at Tonsai Pier
- Pay the island feeAt the end of the pier every arriving passenger pays a 20 THB fee, which funds rubbish collection. Have small change ready.
- Find your hotel's porterMany hotels send someone with a sign and a push cart. Otherwise porters at the pier will cart your bags for a small fee, roughly 100–200 THB depending on distance.
- Transfers to remote beachesIf you are staying on Long Beach, Laem Tong or Loh Bagao, your resort will usually arrange a longtail or speedboat transfer from the pier. Confirm the meeting point before you travel.
Onward connections
Phi Phi is a natural stop on an Andaman island-hopping route. In high season, ferries continue from Phi Phi to Koh Lanta and Krabi, and seasonal speedboats run south towards the Trang islands and Koh Lipe. In low season fewer routes operate and some connections go via Krabi.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book the ferry to Phi Phi on the day?
Usually yes, except in peak holiday periods. Booking a day ahead online or through your hotel is easier because it often includes a hotel pick-up.
Is there a ferry from Bangkok to Phi Phi?
No. Fly from Bangkok to Phuket or Krabi (about 1 h 20 min), then take a boat. Overland, buses and trains reach Krabi or Phuket overnight.
Do boats run in the rainy season?
Yes, the main ferries from Phuket and Krabi run all year, but speedboats and some routes are reduced or cancelled in rough weather. Keep a buffer day before international flights.
