Where to climb

The main crags are a short walk from the village at the western end of Tonsai Bay. The best known is Tonsai Tower, with dozens of bolted sport routes ranging from easy to very hard. Other walls nearby are reached on foot or by longtail.

Courses and guided climbs

Climbing shops in the village offer half-day and full-day introductions with all equipment, plus multi-day courses. Experienced climbers can hire gear or a guide. For more limestone, Railay on the Krabi coast is a world-class climbing area within easy reach.

Safety

  • Climb with a reputable school; sea air corrodes bolts over time.
  • Avoid the midday heat; the rock gets very hot.
  • Wear a helmet and bring plenty of water.
