How to save money
- Travel in May, June, October or November for big hotel discounts.
- Eat at the small Thai places and stalls in the middle of Tonsai village rather than on the beachfront.
- Refill water bottles at refill stations instead of buying plastic.
- Withdraw larger amounts less often, because each ATM withdrawal with a foreign card has a fixed fee.
- Share a private longtail with other travellers: it is often cheaper per person than a big group tour, and better.
Frequently asked questions
Is Phi Phi expensive?
It is pricier than mainland Thailand, roughly 20 to 50 percent more for food and drinks, and rooms are expensive in high season. Budget travellers can still manage on about 1,500 to 2,500 THB a day.
Can I pay by card on Phi Phi?
Larger hotels, dive shops and some restaurants accept cards, often with a surcharge of about 3 percent. Small restaurants, longtail boats and stalls want cash.
