Phi Phi beaches

Phi Phi Don has around a dozen beaches, and they could hardly be more different: a party bay that drains at low tide, a long stretch facing Phi Phi Leh, hidden coves reached only by kayak, and quiet resort beaches in the far north.

Tides matter

The tidal range on the Andaman coast is several metres. At low tide, the shallow bays, especially Loh Dalum, can drain far out and turn into sand flats, while beaches with steeper shores like Long Beach and Laem Tong stay swimmable. Check a tide table before you plan a swim or a kayak trip.

Beach safety

  • Watch out for boat traffic: longtails come right up to the shore on most beaches. Swim inside the marked buoys where they exist.
  • In the monsoon, red flags mean strong currents. Do not swim.
  • Wear water shoes on coral and rocky sections.
  • Do not leave valuables unattended on the beach.
