Things to do

Nightlife

Phi Phi has one of the liveliest party scenes in southern Thailand, concentrated on a single stretch of sand. If that is your thing, you will love it; if not, it is easy to avoid.

Loh Dalum beach bars

Every evening, bars along Loh Dalum set out cushions on the sand and play music. Fire dancers perform spectacular shows with burning staffs and poi, often inviting brave guests to try a fire-skipping rope. The party builds through the evening and peaks after midnight in high season.

In the village

Tonsai has bars of every kind, from reggae bars to sports pubs. A long-running bar in the village stages amateur Muay Thai bouts where tourists can step into the ring. There are also quieter cocktail bars and live-music spots on the edges of the village.

Party safely

  • Buckets are strong and often made with cheap spirits; pace yourself.
  • Never leave your drink unattended.
  • Do not swim at night after drinking; currents and boats are a real danger.
  • Keep valuables at your hotel and carry only what you need.
  • Drugs are illegal in Thailand, with severe penalties.

Avoiding the noise

If you want quiet nights, stay away from the lanes right behind Loh Dalum. Long Beach, Laem Tong and Loh Bagao are peaceful after dark. See Where to stay.
