Loh Dalum Beach

The curving bay on the north side of the isthmus is Phi Phi's living room. By day, people lounge in the shallow water and paddle kayaks; at night, the beach bars light up with fire shows and music.

By day

Loh Dalum faces north-west into a sheltered bay framed by cliffs. The water is calm, warm and very shallow. At high tide it is lovely for a swim; at low tide the sea retreats far out, leaving a wide expanse of sand and tide pools. Kayaks and paddleboards are rented along the beach, and it is a good starting point for paddling to Monkey Beach.

By night

After sunset the bars along the beach set out cushions and tables on the sand, the music gets louder and fire dancers perform, usually from around 21:00. This is the centre of Phi Phi's Nightlife. The party often continues well past midnight, especially in high season.

Staying nearby

Hotels and guesthouses range from budget dorms in the lanes behind the beach to mid-range resorts at its quieter eastern end. Convenient for everything, but light sleepers should read Where to stay first.
